Seedy Sunday & Volunteer Opportunities!

I am happy to announce that a Seedy Sunday is taking place at the Kimberley General Store this coming Sunday, April 29th, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm!

It is a great opportunity to swap seeds, meet other growers, talk shop and maybe even pick up a few seedlings (heirloom tomatoes!!!) for your kitchen garden.  I will be there along with the good folks from Free Spirit Gardens, and many other growing enthusiasts.  The fun starts at 11:00 am and runs until 1:00 pm or so – the store closes at 5pm.  There will also be an educational forum about saving seeds and what a local food system that can meet our communities` needs in the face of climate change and peak oil would look like.  It`s sure to be worth the trip, come check it out!

VOLUNTEER:  I am also looking for someone interested in helping me at the Collingwood Farmers` Market in exchange for amazing fresh veggies!  I am looking for someone with a positive, out-going personality, who is dependable, able to lift totes of vegetables, and has an interest in organic agriculture.  If you are interested, please let me know so we can meet.                            519-599-5363      *      mreid5363 @ gmail.com

A wheelbarrow full of Jerusalem Artichokes – Interestingly enough, these potato-like tubers are neither artichokes, nor are they from Jerusalem – they are a perennial food source indigenous to North America!

This is actually garlic! Last fall I harvested and planted the top-setting bulbils – one way to increase your seed stock! It will take a few years, but good things take time, don`t they?
