I never would have guessed we`d have a couple of inches of snow staying on the ground mid-May, but, here it is!
While the peas & onions don`t seem to mind, the seeds I planted late last week will surely look forward to warming soil temperatures to get cracking! I’m sure the hens will be happier to get out & soak up more of that glorious sunlight which comes through in their deeply colourful egg yolks, but for now they are comfortably nestled in the dry straw of their coops.
I`ve got a busy couple of weeks coming up and so I wanted to let y`all know what will be happening…
Take a deep breath, you may want to go get your calendar or day-planner to mark all of these monumental events…
Sat May 18th: 1st Collingwood Farmers`Market!
(2nd & Pine, in the municipal parking lot behind the Loblaw’s parking lot from 8:30-1)
I will be here with seedlings & a few garden surprises – looking forward to it!
Later that day I`ll be at the Collingwood Community Food Co-op to celebrate their grand opening!
Sun May 19th: KIMBERLEY SEEDY SUNDAY (10-2)
This will be huge – 3rd annual (at least). Come by the Kimberley General Store from 10-2pm for an amazing seedling sale – Stacie always has outstanding lunches & snacks available and this will be a great opportunity to meet & greet with local growers – ask questions & stock up on seeds & seedlings for your bodacious gardens this summer!
I’ll be joined by Ben of Fiddlehead Nurseries as well as the folks from Free Spirit Gardens (Who are having another event that afternoon at the Cook Community Garden)
I will be offering free tomato seeds compliments of Goddess Grown Heirloom Seeds – plus lots of started plants!
Wed May 22nd: 1st Clarksburg Farmers’ Market (3-6pm)!
There will be a free tai chi class put on by our local Taoist Tai Chi/Fung Loy Kok Society! I will be offering free biodegradable pots of calendula & centauria flowers for all tai chi participants that day! Not to be missed. Live local music from the illustrious Avril Dell!

May 25-26th: Headwaters at Sticks & Stones Wilderness School based out of Kimbercote Farm! A great place to take the kids or grandkids to learn timeless skills such as how to start a fire without a lighter or matches, how to track wild animals, how to make cordage from plants and much, much more!
If I can make it, I’ll be there (but no promises – as I mentioned, this is a busy time for me!)

Awesome! This will be a nice change from excavating the root cellar! See you at the markets

Hey Mike! I’m pretty sure I can make it on the 27th to help out at the farm. If something changes I’ll let you know. Hope all is well. Cheers! DG
