Community Shares

Plans are taking shape for the coming season and the seed orders are IN! The CSA program is growing this year, which means there are more spots left to be filled.  The earlier you sign up, the better.  I’ve included a breakdown of the early-bird specials for February and March at the bottom of this post… …But first… Making good food accessible to all, regardless of income, is important, and so I thought I would describe Kolapore Gardens Community Shares program.

Community Shares

Reduced-pricing for shares is available pending community support to assist low-income households in accessing a share in Kolapore Gardens CSA. CSA members as well as the broader community are encouraged to consider donating a small amount to help secure access to local organic food to low-income families. If there are no applications for community shares, the money will be used towards produce donations to local food banks or other worthy organizations. Last year, with the help of community donations, produce and farm-fresh eggs were distributed to My Friends House, a domestic abuse treatment center in Collingwood. If you would like to inquire about a reduced rate for a share let me know, and pending support, a partial subsidy can be arranged to help make the weekly shares more affordable. If you would like to sponsor a community share, either personally or in the name of a business, please contact me to discuss details. Why Community Shares Are a Good Investment:

  1. Help make organic food accessible to local low-income households and people in need
  2. Support local ecological food production – the farmer is directly reimbursed for donating food
  3. Your investment stays in the local community – while I don’t offer a tax receipt or even personalized envelope labels, the money invested in community shares stays local, supporting local organizations while respecting the hard work of local growers.

012   And… here’s a little breakdown of the early bird savings for standard CSA shares: Sign up by February 1st: $335 for a small share or $470 for a full or by March 1st: $340 for a small share or $480 for a full With this investment CSA members are entitled to roughly 5 months of weekly baskets of vegetables – and have the ability to select exactly which crops to take home. Thank you, Mike
